Description

The whiskey is named after New Orleans' Sazerac Coffee House, the birthplace of the famed – and delicious – Sazerac cocktail. Thomas H Handy, the owner of Peychaud's Bitters, purchased the Coffee House. Versatile, sharp, and an excellent complement to cocktails containing orange liqueur, as well as its namesake traditional cocktail.

Sazerac Rye Whiskey - New Orleans’ Authentic

Sazerac Rye Whiskey, The One and Only New Orleans Original, represents New Orleans' heritage and legacy. Rye Whiskey from the 1800s, when saloons disguised as Coffee Houses began to line the streets of New Orleans. Locals were served toddies made with Rye Whiskey and Peychaud's Bitters at the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street. As a result, the cocktail was dubbed the "Sazerac," becoming America's first branded cocktail. This is the whiskey that got it all started. It received the following awards: Silver, American Whiskey Masters 2021, Silver Outstanding, Whiskies of the World 2021, 2019 Double Gold, The Fifty Best.

Sazerac Rye Whiskey - Tasting Notes

Sazerac Rye whiskey is part of the Legacy de Forge line, unique and special. It's fantastic spicy rye from Buffalo Trace in a tremendous old-school bottle. We believe this is six years old.

Sweet with spices and stem ginger in syrup on the nose. Orange zest, freshly ground black pepper, and a combination of peels

Palate: Thick, spicy palate with Seville orange marmalade and allspice aromas. Later on, peanut butter, toffee, and barrel char emerge.

Aftertaste: A peppery, greasy finish.

Jim Murray of Whisky Bible gave it a score of 94.5, writing, "Any crisper and the glass might shatter... a valuable and rare treasure!"

Sazerac Rye Whiskey -  Great Value For Money

The beautiful thing about Sazerac Rye whiskey is that it complements a Low Country boil or BBQ well. Combine smoked salmon and bitter cheeses in a Sazerac Cocktail. Fresh oysters with Sazerac Rye, however? Now is the time to stop talking.

Overall, despite its syrupy core, this whisky is exceptionally well balanced. Sazerac also gets high marks for adaptability; it's excellent on the rocks and packs a punch in many whiskey-based cocktails.

To prepare an old-fashioned, in a glass, combine a brown sugar cube and cold water, then add two large ice cubes, two measures of Sazerac rye whiskey, two dashes of Peychaud's bitters, and one dash of Angostura bitters.

Since we're discussing rye whiskey, we put together a catalog of our one-of-a-kind rye collection. Check it out here.
