The gallant and talented Tío Rey, from the town of Sola de Vega, makes Vago’s intense clay pot distilled liquids. This mezcal is the essence of ancestral mezcal methods: agaves are hand ground instead of by tahona and distilled in clay pots versus copper stills. Tio Rey’s Ensamble batches are unique field blends of agave varietals, meaning the blend starts in the roasting process; not after distillation. Each batch is a special work of art that will never be repeated. Tío Rey’s Ensambles are always respected for their complexity, rarity and deeply artisanal production roots.
