I had never tried this whiskey. I'd had the Evan Williams black label and the honey. Found them to be excellent bourbon. I read up on the 1783 and found it here for a good price. Along with this I bought another brand of bourbon known for how easy drinking it is. I tried the other brand first. I liked it a lot and it's comprably priced. Even as smooth as the other one is it still has a short mild burn. Before it was done it gave me a Kentucky Hug. This bourbon was 90 proof the same as 1783. It is known for a low rye mash bill.
A few days later I opened the 1783. It had an excellent nose with no ethanol smell. It gave a sweet, fruity nose with a butterscotch, caramel note. Nothing was dominant over anything else or in your face. The color to me is kind of a golden amber and it thick enough to cling to the walls of a glass. The very first sip had a quick burn like cinnamon gummy bears. Theouth feel while not exceptional was good for what this costs. On the palate you get the sweet, the fruit, the butterscotch but you still can pick the bourbons entire flavor as you got these other flavors in stages but nothing overwhelmed the others. On the finish you get the oak maybe a little stronger than the other flavors but it's not sour or bitter
I will be buying myself a large bottle or two of this for myself. I have some of the bigger names I'll let others drink and I'll keep my cheap bourbon for me! Now remember this is 90 proof so if you like high octane bourbons this may not be for you. If you want a easy supper in a cocktail, over a little ice or a couple of ounces neat just before bed. By this and don't let the secret out. You can drink this and smile thinking about how much quality is here for so little a price. Just don't spread it around so the price stays stable and there is more available for those of us that know and appreciate what this bourbon is!!!
