Old Carter Batch 6 Straight American Whiskey continues the line's 13-year era: a 134.6-proof (67.3% ABV) barrel-strength straight American whiskey, blended in small batch by Old Carter Whiskey Co. from sourced Kentucky whiskey and bottled uncut in 2021. The outturn came to 2,409 hand-numbered bottles, released the same year as Batch 5 and separated from it by a mere three-tenths of a proof point.
That near-twin relationship with Batch 5 is exactly what makes Batch 6 interesting. Same age statement, same release year, nearly identical strength — yet each batch is its own composition of barrels, and side by side they reveal how much a blender's choices matter. Expect the series hallmarks of dark caramel, oak char, baking spice and leather here, with Batch 6 bringing its own weighting of sweetness and spice, preserved intact by the absence of chill filtration. Tasted against its sibling, expect Batch 6 to read a shade spicier and drier, though both share the same deep caramel core.
Mark and Sherri Carter founded Old Carter after their run reviving Kentucky Owl, and they structured it as a blending house: no still of their own in the early years, just a discerning palate applied to fully matured Kentucky barrels and a refusal to cut the results. Batch 6 embodies the consistency that approach achieved at scale — a 13-year, mid-130s-proof whiskey delivered with the same standards as the tiny Kentucky-only debut three years earlier.
For collectors, the 2021 pair of Batches 5 and 6 is one of the series' natural two-bottle flights, and completists tend to hunt them together. On its own, Batch 6 offers the classic mid-series specification — 13 years, 134.6 proof, 2,409 hand-numbered bottles — that represents the Straight American Whiskey line at cruising altitude. It is the batch that proves the peak years were no accident, and its near-identical spec to Batch 5 makes it the easiest place to study what pure barrel selection changes when everything else stays constant.
