Old Weller Antique is a full-bodied wheated bourbon with a balanced flavor. It is a 107 proof whiskey with a rich flavor and a powerful finish. It's a well-known member of the Weller family, with distinct traits that complement the high proof. Wine Enthusiast called this wheated bourbon a "very well-crafted whiskey."
The Old Weller Antique Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a wheated bourbon that is bottled at cask strength after aging for seven years (107 proof). It has a medium amber color and creamy vanilla and roasted nuts aroma. The bourbon is full-bodied, with aromas of honeyed fruits, vanilla, and caramel, with a lingering, somewhat spicy finish. It's a fantastic whiskey, as evidenced by their numerous awards. It took home gold at the American Whiskey Masters in 2021, gold at the North American Bourbon and Whiskey Competition in 2021, bronze at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2021, and best in class/gold at the Outstanding Whiskies of the World in 2021.
Aromas of luscious rich fruit, vanilla, and caramel rush forth from the glass. A hefty quantity of seasoned oak adds depth. Finally, a burst of cinnamon bark spice and undertones of black licorice interrupt the flavor. The first thing you'll notice as the bourbon rolls about in my mouth is how full-bodied and oily it is. The taste buds are gripped by cinnamon spice, followed by cherries, dark fruits, raw sugar, and old wood. The proof is manageable and perhaps a little subdued, as the flavors take center stage rather than any hint of fire. Dark fruit and wood contrast with a thick, weighty mouthfeel, and cinnamon is as attractive as fantastic. The conclusion starts with a crescendo of cinnamon spice. Cinnamon lingers in the background.
